Results

Dear Qld Kendoka

For your information, the 29th Australian Kendo Championships
held last week on the Gold Coast went off. Sorry you missed it
if you couldn't come; glad you were there if you could.

Important outcomes for the QKR participants, I am sure everyone
will join me in congratulating all the people involved.

Grading results.

Really good work guys, the higher gradings were really tough.
Of 18 candidates attempting 4th Dan or above, only 5 grades were awarded.

Atsuya Kotoda 4th Dan

Noriyuki Tamura 4th Dan

Individual results

Greg Nicholas, despite a dicky knee is once again the Australian
veteran's champion. Way to go Greg.

Team results

For the first time in 29 years the Open team champions are not from
Melbourne or Sydney. Yes the Queensland Dan team are the current
Australian Champions.

The team consisted of

Noriyuki Tamura Senpo
Atsuya Kotoda Jiho
Takahiro Tsukadaira Chuken
Ken Okamoto Fukusho
Peter Strauss Taisho
Carl Carrick (reserve)

During the pool matches the Qld/Victoria rubber was very hard fought, with
Peter Strauss delivering the 1 point in favour of QLD in the last match
after the team had fought Victoria to a standstill to this point. We all
thought that that was stressful enough but the team then took NSW to a draw
in the final with 3 hikiwake and only 2 points scores. Taka Tsukadaira then
secured victory for us in an Ippon Shobu tiebreaker.

Magic final with even Shigeoka Sensei saying that the excitement gave him a
stomach ache.

Unfortunately the Nakakura Banner got away from me during pack up but I am
in the process of securing it's return from Canberra so that we can all
enjoy celebrating the victory.

Congratulations to all

Regards

Kevin Humphrey
President
QKR
