July Grading and Seminar

Mt Gravatt 23 and 24 July 2011

Dear All,

The seminar is now booked for the weekend of July 23rd & 24th, 2011. The venue is the Ken Shin Kai Dojo at
Mt. Gravatt High, The Hall, Creighton Street, Mt. Gravatt, Brisbane. Please be ready to start at 9.30am both days.

There will be a grading for iaido and kendo on Sunday, 24th July, 2011. Further grading details will be
e-mailed together with cost and catering arrangements for the weekend.

Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is also due and will be held at this seminar to elect representatives for the
posts of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer for the Queensland Kendo Renmei. Please note that
John Isaacs has already resigned as President and will not be standing for office at these elections.
Candidates are requested to nominate for these positions by contacting the QKR in writing (e-mail is
acceptable, by response to this e-mail) by 5pm Friday, 15th July, 2011. The candidates full name, discipline(s)
practised and member dojo should accompany the nomination. The list of nominees will be distributed to the membership prior to the AGM.

The executive positions carry a significant workload and candidates should familiarise themselves with the
tasks required for each role. Advice and support from previous executive members is always available.
Therefore, please consider these roles even if you have not held an executive position previously.

Dojo leaders are requested to supply a list of club members wishing to grade, and to what level,
for the Sunday grading.

Please also supply an approximate list of attendees for the weekend for catering purposes.

December Seminar and Grading in Toowoomba. 10 and 11 December 2011

The December kendo and iaido seminar and grading will be held in Toowoomba this year on the 10th and 11th of December.

The venue will be the Mort Estate Activity Centre (MEAC)and an associated parish Hall.

There will as usual be a fee for participants, it has been requested that people be given the opportunity to self-cater on this
occasion to reduce costs. We will arrange lunches for those that desire it, or people can self-cater, costs will be adjusted
accordingly. I will specify costs within the week.

This will allow us to separate the Iaido/Jodo and Kendo groups onto separate floors for training purposes.

Further information regarding the program will be released as soon as it is developed, but the format will follow previous years with
Kendo and Iaido/Jodo training in the morning on Saturday, an opportunity for joint kendo kata training in the afternoon. Separate
trainings and grading preparation on Sunday morning and a grading to be held after lunch on Sunday afternoon.
Grading will likely be available to 3rd Dan in kendo and at least shodan in iaido.

Dr Kevin J Humphrey
